A golfing vacation destination Hilton Head Island is located in southern South Carolina, near the border of Georgia.
Each year, the Verizon Heritage Classic Tournament is held on Hilton Head Island, in the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines Plantation. Traditionally, when a player wins the Verizon Heritage tournament, the boats lined up in nearby Calibogue Sound toot their horns to the winner. Harbour Town Golf Links was designed by architect Pete Dye with help from Jack Nicklaus, and it is open to the public year-round. It is necessary to have a tee time, however, if you're planning on playing there. Walk in the footsteps of legends, and play where the pros play.
With its mild weather and 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean, the island is also a popular beachside destination. There is also scuba diving, water-skiing, dolphin watching, windsurfing, shelling and other aquatic activities to enjoy. Also included in this island vacation spot are over 250 restaurants of every price range and cuisine.
